CNN halted for Donald Trump 'breaking news' as host 'struggles' to report huge win

CNN’s Abby Phillip Acknowledges Trump's Unexpected Success on Border Policy

Last month, CNN anchor Abby Phillip sharply criticized former President Donald Trump by highlighting what she called “100 lies” during his first 100 days in office. However, in a surprising turn, Phillip acknowledged on air today that Trump had achieved a major policy goal many thought unlikely.

During a live broadcast, CNN broke for breaking news coverage confirming that Trump had effectively shut down the U.S.-Mexico border, with virtually no crossings taking place. The anchor, who had previously been skeptical of Trump’s ability to deliver on immigration enforcement, conceded: “Trump has... succeeded. He has shut the border down, there are no border crossings, virtually, happening.”

The announcement followed a report from the Trump administration stating that more than 38,000 Mexican nationals had been deported during his contentious second term. The acknowledgment was especially striking given Phillip’s recent on-air listing of dozens of claims she characterized as falsehoods by Trump. These ranged from economic topics—like grocery prices, inflation, and trade—to global issues including Ukraine, China, and NATO.

She had also expressed doubt about Trump’s promises on immigration, border walls, migrant policy, and border security, placing them among many other topics she said he misrepresented—from COVID and election integrity to foreign policy and domestic programs.

Social media quickly reacted to Phillip’s statement. One viewer on X commented, “You could tell this was difficult for Abby Phillip to admit. You could hear her pause before saying it.” Another added, “It’s tough to admit when you’ve been wrong, but I respect her honesty.”

Others weighed in with comparisons to the Biden administration’s handling of border issues. One user questioned whether Phillip had previously argued that closing the border would require Congressional action. Another sarcastically remarked, “You mean the border crossings that were just in our imaginations during the Biden years?”
