Elon Musk Steps Away from Trump Administration Role as His Father Reveals Private Views on the Former President

Elon Musk has officially stepped down from his role assisting Donald Trump in government, and in a surprising twist, his father Errol Musk has publicly shared how Elon once truly felt about the former president.

Errol, 76, appeared on TalkTV’s What Just Happened with host Kevin O’Sullivan, where he recounted a past conversation in which Elon strongly criticized Trump. According to Errol, Elon once viewed Trump in a deeply negative light, even accusing his father of being “evil” for supporting him. Errol recalled Elon asking, “How could you be so stupid?” in response to his political stance.

Errol also recounted his 70th birthday celebration, where his support for Trump sparked ridicule from guests. “They raucously laughed at me,” he said, adding that once the laughter subsided, the guests bluntly asked why he backed Trump. Errol explained, “I think he’s good—he’s a businessman, much better than a career politician or bureaucrat.” However, the partygoers weren’t convinced, calling Trump a “conman” and a “crook.”

The conversation then turned to Elon’s own political evolution. When asked how Elon shifted from calling Trump “evil” to cooperating with him, Errol attributed the change to disappointment with the Biden administration. “They experienced the Biden presidency and realized this group was out to destroy everything of value in the United States, including their businesses,” he claimed.

Despite recent reports suggesting Elon is distancing himself from Trump, Errol pushed back. He dismissed rumors that Elon had severed ties, saying the two remain “very close.”

Elon Musk had been appointed by Trump to help lead the Department of Government Efficiency—abbreviated as DOGE. However, he recently announced on his social media platform X that his tenure is ending.

“As my scheduled time as a Special Government Employee comes to an end, I would like to thank President @realDonaldTrump for the opportunity to reduce wasteful spending,” Musk posted. “The @DOGE mission will only strengthen over time as it becomes a way of life throughout the government.”
