Bono Defends Bruce Springsteen and Rips Into Trump: “There’s Only One Boss in America”
Music icon Bono of U2 didn’t hold back during a recent appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live, defending Bruce Springsteen and torching Donald Trump with a passionate takedown. Asked by Kimmel, “Trump or Bruce Springsteen?” Bono fired back without hesitation:
“There’s only one boss in America.”
Kimmel then shared one of Trump’s unhinged Truth Social posts, where the former president baselessly claimed that Springsteen, Bono, and other major celebrities were paid to endorse Kamala Harris in 2024 — as if anyone needed to be bribed to stand against Trump’s extremism.
Bono responded with cutting humor:
“I don’t want to cut in on your action, because I know the president at 1 a.m. or 1:30 or whenever that was, is usually thinking about you,” he joked.
Then he got serious:
“To be in the company of Bruce Springsteen, Beyoncé, and Oprah — I’d play tambourine in that band. But no, U2 and I have never been paid or played any show in support of a political candidate. Ever.”
He added a jab at Trump’s favorite platform:
“You know, it’s called Truth Social, but it seems to be pretty antisocial. And it’s not very true a lot of the time.”
Bono went on to explain that perhaps Trump took notice of him because of his work with the ONE Campaign, a bipartisan initiative.
“We have evangelicals, devout Catholics, conservatives — many of whom are now furious at the man they voted for, because he dismantled instruments of mercy like USAID and PEPFAR, which saved 26 million lives from AIDS.”
“That’s the America we love. That’s the America we believe in. And those voters are not happy. There’s going to be backlash,” he warned.
Bono’s remarks come in the wake of Trump’s latest tirade against Springsteen, who recently kicked off his European tour by calling out the corruption, incompetence, and treasonous behavior of Trump’s political movement.
Trump, in response, threatened a “major investigation” into Springsteen over his support for Kamala Harris, lashing out by calling the legendary artist “highly overrated,” “a pushy, obnoxious JERK,” and a “dried out prune” of a rocker.
These attacks reek of desperation. Trump isn’t trying to lead — he’s trying to distract. While his administration imploded under the weight of failed trade wars, wrecked global alliances, and economic blunders, he’d rather pick fights with celebrities than address the real issues he caused. The world is watching — and laughing — as Trump tries to relive his reality TV days instead of fixing the damage he's done.
