Fox News political analyst Brit Hume publicly condemned former network colleague and Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth for launching a vicious attack on reporter Jennifer Griffin after an explosive meltdown at a press conference.
Even prominent conservatives are acknowledging how out of control this administration has become.
“I’d like to say a word if I may, Dana, about Jennifer Griffin, who was attacked by the Defense Secretary today—an attack she certainly did not deserve,” Hume said. “Her professionalism, her knowledge, and her experience covering the Pentagon are unmatched. I have had, and continue to have, the greatest respect for her.”
“The attack on her was unfair,” he added bluntly.
During the heated briefing, Hegseth ranted about the supposed “success” of Donald Trump’s illegal bombing campaign in Iran. When Griffin asked whether any enriched uranium had survived the strikes—a perfectly reasonable question—Hegseth snapped, accusing her of deliberate misinformation.
NBC News has since reported that the “extent of the damage to the deeply buried facility at Fordo” and other key sites remains unclear, with roughly 400 kilograms of 60% enriched uranium still “publicly unaccounted for,” enough material to build up to ten nuclear weapons.
Leaked Pentagon assessments suggest the attacks may have delayed Iran’s nuclear program by only a few months, yet Trump and his allies continue to spin the operation as a sweeping success.
“Of course we’re watching every single aspect, but Jennifer, you’ve been about the worst,” Hegseth barked at Griffin. “The one who misrepresents the most intentionally. What the president says—I’m familiar.”
Griffin calmly defended her reporting: “I reported about the ventilation shafts on Saturday night. In fact, I was the first to describe the B-2 bombers, the refueling, the entire mission with great accuracy, so I take issue with that.”
Hegseth’s animosity toward Griffin has been simmering for years. She previously reported on SignalGate as well as his extravagant spending of $130,000 in taxpayer funds to fix up his government-provided house—including what he labeled an “emergency paint job.” His outburst was as much about personal grudges as it was about panic that the White House’s narrative on Iran is unraveling.
This is what happens when unqualified, unstable people are handed the reins of the most powerful government on earth. If Hegseth can’t handle basic questions without lashing out, why should anyone trust him to lead the military in an actual crisis?
