Justice has been served: former Trump attorney Kenneth Chesebro has been disbarred in New York for his role in attempting to illegally overturn the 2020 election and for undermining the foundations of American democracy.
And the scathing decision doesn’t stop there.
Chesebro played a central role in orchestrating the fraudulent pro-MAGA electors scheme. He knowingly worked to subvert the will of the voters, steal the presidency from Joe Biden, and install Trump in power. Fortunately, he failed.
The judges on the Appellate Division determined that Chesebro committed a “serious crime,” citing his guilty plea in Georgia’s investigation into the coordinated efforts to falsify election documents. They found that his felony conspiracy to file false documents was “unquestionably serious.”
“On that basis alone, respondent’s conduct brings into question his integrity and fitness to continue engaging in the practice of law in New York,” the court wrote.
The ruling went on to emphasize that his actions struck at “the very notion of our constitutional democracy that he, as an attorney, swore an oath to uphold.”
“Given the testimony and evidence produced at the hearing, we conclude that respondent should be disbarred based on his conviction of a serious crime,” the judges concluded.
In true MAGA fashion, Chesebro has been scrambling to nullify his 2023 guilty plea—no doubt emboldened by Trump’s election victory and the wave of lawlessness that followed, including mass pardons for January 6th rioters.
But Chesebro’s legal troubles are far from over. He still faces criminal charges in Wisconsin related to the fake elector plot there. With any luck, accountability won’t stop at disbarment—he could be headed to prison where he truly belongs.
