MAGA Meltdown: Trump Turns on Musk in Billionaire Budget Brawl

A high-profile feud has erupted between Donald Trump and his former ally Elon Musk, signaling a deepening rift within the MAGA ranks. The former president took to Truth Social to blast Musk and threaten the removal of billions in government contracts and subsidies that support Musk’s sprawling empire of companies.

“Elon was ‘wearing thin,’ I asked him to leave, I took away his EV Mandate that forced everyone to buy Electric Cars that nobody else wanted (that he knew for months I was going to do!), and he just went CRAZY!” Trump posted.

In a follow-up message, he added: “The easiest way to save money in our Budget, Billions and Billions of Dollars, is to terminate Elon’s Governmental Subsidies and Contracts. I was always surprised that Biden didn’t do it!”

While Musk has long benefited from generous government funding — including major contracts with NASA and the Department of Defense, along with EV tax credits — Trump’s threat to cut him off financially could pose a serious challenge to Musk’s business empire.

This outburst follows a wave of attacks from Musk targeting a major federal spending bill, which he has branded a “disgusting abomination” loaded with “massive, outrageous, pork-filled” provisions. Musk has been actively urging his followers to pressure lawmakers to reject the legislation.

“Not even those in Congress who had to vote on the Big Ugly Spending Bill had time to read it!” Musk wrote on X (formerly Twitter), adding in another post, “The Big Ugly Bill will INCREASE the deficit to $2.5 trillion!”

He even floated a conspiracy theory suggesting the president has been "replaced by a body double," while resurfacing old Trump tweets calling for a balanced federal budget.

Despite Trump’s and Musk’s very public fallout, both are united in their disdain for the spending bill. Critics point to analysis from the nonpartisan Congressional Budget Office, which estimates the legislation would strip health insurance from nearly 11 million Americans over the next decade. At the same time, it expands the already bloated Pentagon budget to over $1 trillion, slashes taxes by $3.7 trillion in a windfall for the wealthy, and adds $2.4 trillion to the national deficit.

It’s a rare moment where some may find themselves agreeing — in part — with both figures. Trump is right to question Musk’s corporate welfare. Musk is right to oppose a reckless and harmful bill. But in the end, many are hoping both men come out on the losing side of this fight.
