MAGA House Speaker Mike Johnson has revealed Donald Trump’s reaction after Elon Musk sharply turned against Trump’s so-called “big, beautiful bill,” calling it a “disgusting abomination.” Musk didn’t stop there—he went on to urge Congress to “kill the bill.” Trump is reportedly furious.
When asked by a reporter, “What do you think changed? Why is Elon Musk opposing this now? Have you talked to the president or Elon since that infamous tweet?” Johnson replied, “I called Elon last night but he didn’t answer. I hope to speak with him today. We’ve always had a friendly rapport and have joked about policy disagreements before.”
Johnson added, “I’m not upset. Elon understands the gravity of the situation—he’s acknowledged to me before that this isn’t something to mess around with. The debt cliff is approaching fast.”
Despite the turmoil in the bond market caused by the bill, Johnson insisted, “Everything in this bill is vital for the U.S. economy. It’s like jet fuel—it will raise all boats. The sooner we act, the better.”
He warned, “Failing to pass it carries huge risks—not just for the Republican Party but for the entire country. If we don’t act, the largest tax increase in U.S. history kicks in at year-end, along with other disasters we’ve discussed.”
Johnson said he hopes Musk reconsiders. “I talk to President Trump multiple times a day. He’s clearly unhappy Elon flipped on this, but I don’t know what changed in 24 hours—everyone can decide for themselves. I look forward to discussing it with my friend again. I’m not upset about it.”
The “infamous tweet” referenced was posted by Musk yesterday:
“I’m sorry, but I just can’t stand it anymore. This massive, outrageous, pork-filled Congressional spending bill is a disgusting abomination. Shame on those who voted for it—you know you did wrong.”
Musk warned it would balloon the budget deficit to $2.5 trillion and saddle Americans with unsustainable debt. Today, he urged his 220 million followers to “Call your Senator, call your Congressman. Bankrupting America is NOT ok! KILL the BILL.”
Congress should heed this call. The bill is a disaster for the American people.
The Congressional Budget Office projects the bill will add $2.4 trillion to the national deficit over the next decade, balloon the Pentagon’s budget to over $1 trillion, and slash essential services Americans depend on.
It estimates 7.8 million people will lose Medicaid, and another 3.1 million will lose healthcare coverage due to changes in Affordable Care Act marketplaces. Altogether, nearly 11 million Americans could be without health insurance by 2034.
The choice is clear: either Americans stop this bill, or this bill will severely harm us all.
