CNN has dropped a bombshell report revealing that a U.S. intelligence assessment found Donald Trump’s illegal bombing of three Iranian nuclear sites likely failed to destroy the “core components” of Iran’s program.
Trump’s premature victory lap is shaping up to be a historic embarrassment.
According to the assessment, Trump’s boasts that the targets were “completely and fully obliterated” were blatantly untrue. Desperate to serve up a win for his MAGA base, he jumped the gun without waiting for any meaningful verification.
The Pentagon’s Defense Intelligence Agency concluded that the strikes probably set Iran’s nuclear ambitions back by only a few months—an insignificant delay in strategic terms. Analysts based this conclusion on post-strike damage surveys.
Four sources familiar with the findings spoke to CNN. Two confirmed that Iran’s enriched uranium stockpile survived the bombings, while another said most centrifuges remained “intact.”
NBC News had already reported that the actual damage to the deeply buried Fordo facility—as well as the sites at Isfahan and Natanz—was still unclear. That report noted that roughly 400 kilograms of 60% enriched uranium remains “publicly unaccounted for.”
According to the New York Times, that quantity of uranium could be enough to build nine or ten nuclear bombs.
The Trump administration is now scrambling to spin the narrative.
“This alleged assessment is flat-out wrong and was classified as ‘top secret’ but was still leaked to CNN by an anonymous, low-level loser in the intelligence community,” White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt insisted.
“The leaking of this alleged assessment is a clear attempt to demean President Trump and discredit the brave fighter pilots who conducted a perfectly executed mission to obliterate Iran’s nuclear program,” she added. “Everyone knows what happens when you drop fourteen 30,000-pound bombs precisely on target: total obliteration.”
Meanwhile, classified briefings on the strikes were scheduled today for the House and Senate—but the White House abruptly canceled them. The Senate session has been rescheduled for Thursday, fueling suspicion that Trump is stalling until he can manufacture a new storyline.
“Trump just cancelled a classified House briefing on the Iran strikes with zero explanation. The real reason? He claims he destroyed ‘all nuclear facilities and capability.’ His team knows they can’t back up his bluster and BS,” Congressman Pat Ryan posted on X.
This is classic Trump: reality is irrelevant as long as he can dominate the headlines and sell a convenient fiction to his followers. Whether the nuclear sites were actually destroyed never mattered—as long as he could claim they were.
