Zelensky narrowly escapes brutal 'sniper' assassination by 'Russian sleeper agent'

A plot to assassinate Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has been foiled by Ukrainian and Polish security services, according to Vasyl Malyuk, head of Ukraine’s Security Service (SBU).

Malyuk revealed that a retired military officer, allegedly recruited by Russian intelligence “decades ago,” was recently “activated” to carry out the killing. The suspect planned to target Zelensky at Rzeszów Airport in Poland, considering options such as deploying an FPV drone or using a sniper rifle.

“All of this was prepared, but we detained him,” Malyuk said. “Our Polish colleagues acted professionally. It was a joint operation.” He expressed gratitude to Poland’s Internal Security Agency (ABW), which he described as the country’s equivalent of the SBU. “Together, we conducted an important criminal investigation. This military pensioner, a Polish citizen, had been recruited long ago, remained committed to Soviet ideology, and carried this plan in his mind for years,” he added.

According to RBC-Ukraine, SBU officers and Polish law enforcement ultimately disrupted the operation.

Separately, UNN reported that yet another attempt to assassinate Zelensky was prevented. This plot allegedly involved senior officials within Ukraine’s own security services, including colonels from the State Guard Department (UDO) collaborating with Russia’s Federal Security Service (FSB).

Malyuk explained: “One of those detained was a colonel of the UDO, the head of the department responsible for protecting top state officials. Despite this role, he was plotting an attack on our President.”

He further noted that another colonel was arrested alongside him, both accused of working with the FSB’s 5th Service.
