In a move that sparked intense reactions online, former President Donald Trump posted an AI-generated video depicting the arrest of former President Barack Obama. The video, shared Sunday on Trump’s Truth Social platform, shows digitally altered footage of Obama being handcuffed by FBI agents while Trump looks on smiling. The clip ends with Obama in an orange prison jumpsuit behind bars, all set to the soundtrack of the Village People’s "YMCA."
The post came shortly after Tulsi Gabbard, now serving as Director of National Intelligence, released a report on Friday accusing President Obama and members of his national security Cabinet of fabricating intelligence about Russian interference in the 2016 U.S. election. According to Gabbard, the goal was to delegitimize Trump’s presidency and lay the groundwork for what she called a “yearslong coup.”
Speaking on Fox News Sunday Morning Futures, Gabbard said the intelligence allegedly created by the Obama administration contradicted previous assessments about Russia’s involvement. “The effect of what President Obama and his senior national security team did was subvert the will of the American people,” she claimed, adding that she would refer the matter to the Justice Department for possible prosecution.
The video Trump posted was met with a mixture of applause and skepticism, even within his own base. While some praised it as symbolic justice, others questioned the timing, suggesting it was meant to distract from renewed criticism of how Trump’s administration handled the Jeffrey Epstein case.
Critics also pointed to the recent 2024 Supreme Court ruling that grants former presidents broad immunity for official acts—suggesting that, legally, such an arrest would be nearly impossible. Senator Mark Warner, the top Democrat on the Senate Intelligence Committee, dismissed Gabbard’s claims, calling it a political maneuver. “The Russians were not successful at manipulating our election infrastructure, nor did we say they were,” he told The New York Times.
Online reactions were polarized. Conservative commentator Nick Sortor posted:
"President Trump posted an AI video of Barack Obama being ARRESTED by FBI and rotting in a prison cell. MAKE THIS A REALITY, @AGPamBondi!"
Others, like political analyst Majid M. Padellan, argued the video was misleading:
“SCOTUS made it impossible to arrest [Obama] when their dumb ruling gave Trump immunity.”
Gabbard concluded her Fox News appearance by stating that it would now fall to Attorney General Pam Bondi and FBI Director Kash Patel to decide whether to pursue indictments based on the evidence her office claims to possess.
This situation underscores a new phase in American political discourse—one in which AI-generated content, legal reinterpretations, and accusations of deep-state plots are all colliding in the public arena.
