Elon Musk has reignited a growing internal feud within the MAGA movement, calling on former President Donald Trump to follow through on promises of transparency regarding the late financier Jeffrey Epstein.
The tech billionaire responded to a recent Truth Social post in which Trump defended Attorney General Pam Bondi, who has come under fire from conservative voices over her handling of Epstein-related documents. Musk commented:
“Seriously. He said ‘Epstein’ half a dozen times while telling everyone to stop talking about Epstein. Just release the files as promised.”
The demand reflects a larger frustration among some conservative factions, particularly those that expected Trump to fully expose any figures tied to Epstein’s criminal network. The lack of new revelations has sparked internal MAGA criticism, with some demanding Bondi’s resignation.
Former Trump adviser Steve Bannon recently warned that continued secrecy could have serious political costs, saying:
“You’re going to lose 40 House seats over this if you don’t release the files.”
Musk, who once financially supported Trump’s 2024 campaign to the tune of $250 million, has since distanced himself—especially following the passage of Trump’s One Big Beautiful Bill. Tensions between the two escalated last month when Musk, in a now-deleted post, implied Trump was named in unreleased Epstein files.
“Time to drop the really big bomb… That is the real reason they have not been made public,” Musk wrote.
Although Musk later admitted he “went too far,” the damage had been done, and the episode has amplified scrutiny over Trump’s shifting stance on the Epstein matter.
The controversy gained further traction after a DOJ and FBI joint review reaffirmed Epstein’s 2019 death as a suicide and declared that no so-called “client list” exists. These conclusions frustrated many within MAGA, who had anticipated full disclosure. Trump, who once pledged to reveal everything if re-elected, now appears to be urging his allies to move on.
In a recent cabinet meeting, Trump dismissed renewed questions about Epstein:
“Are you still talking about Jeffrey Epstein? This guy’s been talked about for years… and are people still talking about this guy, this creep?”
He later defended Bondi on Truth Social, accusing critics of harming a “PERFECT Administration” over what he referred to as “a guy who never dies.”
Despite these reassurances, many in the conservative grassroots feel betrayed. What was once seen as a defining moment for accountability is now viewed by some as a missed opportunity, and Musk's intervention has only intensified that divide.
Whether this internal conflict will affect the midterms remains to be seen, but it's clear the Epstein issue has become more than a talking point—it’s a loyalty test within the MAGA ranks.
