Donald Trump Issues New Ultimatum to Putin Over Ukraine War Amid UK Visit
In a significant development concerning the ongoing war in Ukraine, U.S. President Donald Trump has issued a renewed and shortened ultimatum to Russian President Vladimir Putin. The announcement came during a joint press conference with newly elected UK Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer, held in Scotland during Trump’s official visit.
Speaking from his Turnberry resort, Trump expressed frustration over what he described as repeated violations of prior ceasefire expectations. He revealed that his administration is now giving Russia 10 to 12 days to take concrete steps toward ending hostilities in Ukraine or face escalated economic consequences.
“We thought we had it settled numerous times. And then President Putin goes out and starts launching rockets into a city like Kyiv,” Trump said. “Every time I think it’s going to end, he kills people.”
Trump warned that additional sanctions and potential secondary tariffs—which would target other nations doing business with Russia—are on the table if no progress is made toward peace. While he admitted the possibility of still reaching a deal, he also noted that continued dialogue with Putin has failed to halt the violence.
“We have such nice conversations... and then people die the following night in a missile strike,” Trump said. “I’m very disappointed.”
The U.S. President indicated that an official confirmation of the revised ceasefire deadline would be announced early next week.
The Kremlin has yet to respond directly to Trump’s updated demands. However, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov reiterated on Monday that Moscow remains open to diplomatic dialogue, including with Western leaders. Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov also suggested that a potential Trump-Putin meeting might take place during Putin’s planned visit to China in September, though no formal arrangements have been made.
As tensions continue to escalate and deadlines tighten, the global community is watching closely to see whether this latest ultimatum will shift the trajectory of the war—or further entrench the stalemate.
