California Governor Gavin Newsom’s press team has taken a new approach on social media and it has Donald Trump and Fox News fuming.
Earlier this month, Newsom’s official press office started parodying Trump’s Truth Social style on X (formerly Twitter). The posts mimic Trump’s trademark ALL-CAPS style and even sign off with “GCN,” a nod to Trump’s habit of ending his posts with “DJT.”
It hasn’t stopped there. Newsom has also poked fun at Fox News personalities, including Dana Perino, who he cheekily referred to as “Dana Ding Dong Perino.” Perino didn’t take it lightly. On Fox’s The Five, she scolded Newsom, saying:
“You have to stop it with the Twitter thing… If I were his wife, I would say, ‘You are making a fool of yourself, stop it!’ He’s got a big job as governor of California, but if he wants an even bigger job, he has to be a little more serious.”
She doubled down later on air, insisting that the joke “isn’t funny” and that if Newsom wants to look presidential, he should put the phone away.
But outside of Fox News, others see it differently. One viral post on X praised the governor’s tactic, writing:
“Newsom isn’t just firing off random tweets—he’s flipping the MAGA script back on itself to show how ridiculous it really is. Fox News telling him to ‘act serious?’ This is the same network that treated Trump’s ALL CAPS meltdowns like breaking news.”
The user summed it up with a sharp comparison:
“Fox News calling for ‘seriousness’ after years of Trump’s Twitter tantrums is like a pyromaniac scolding the smoke alarm. The alarm isn’t the problem—the fire is.”
Whatever one thinks of Newsom’s social media strategy, it’s clear that it has struck a nerve and it highlights how Trump’s once-unique style of communication can now be turned against him.
