“Jasmine Crockett Points Out the Hypocrisy Behind Melania Trump’s So-Called ‘Einstein Visa’”

Why Rep. Jasmine Crockett Questioned Melania Trump’s “Einstein Visa”

During a recent House Judiciary hearing, Democratic Congresswoman Jasmine Crockett didn’t hold back when she brought up former First Lady Melania Trump’s immigration history. Crockett pointed out that Melania entered the U.S. through the EB-1 visa, often nicknamed the “Einstein visa,” which is typically reserved for people with extraordinary accomplishments—think Nobel Prize winners, Olympic medalists, or globally recognized leaders in their fields.

Crockett noted that, in her view, Melania didn’t meet those high standards. “It doesn’t take an Einstein to see that the math ain’t mathin’ here,” she said, sparking strong reactions from MAGA supporters.

She went further, criticizing Republicans for what she described as hypocrisy in how they talk about immigration. Crockett argued that the Trump administration often claimed to be restoring “integrity” to the visa system while at the same time revoking visas for petty reasons, including social media posts critical of Trump. “Integrity isn’t grabbing lawful visa holders off the street or punishing young people for speaking their minds,” she added.

Her point was that if Republicans are serious about discussing integrity in immigration, then the president’s own family should also be open to scrutiny. That’s where Melania’s EB-1 visa comes into the spotlight.

Crockett also warned about the bigger picture: she believes that restricting visas and imposing bans can damage America’s economy, weaken higher education, and cut off the flow of talent that has historically made the U.S. stronger. Programs like the J visas (for education exchange) and M visas (for trade training) bring in researchers, medical professionals, and innovators. Limiting these, she said, doesn’t help national security—it hurts it.

Conservatives, unsurprisingly, hit back quickly. Outlets like the New York Post described her as “incendiary,” while Fox News ran a segment defending Melania. On social media, critics accused Crockett of being “jealous.”

But the controversy highlights a deeper issue: immigration standards aren’t always applied equally. Many MAGA supporters don’t question Melania’s process, while at the same time pushing for tougher enforcement against others. Crockett’s comments struck a nerve because they called out that double standard.
