Meghan Markle recently appeared on Emily Chang’s The Circuit YouTube show, where she was asked about her past remarks on former U.S. President Donald Trump. The timing of the interview coincided with the release of the second season of her Netflix series, which naturally drew even more attention.
Back in 2016, during an appearance on The Nightly Show with Larry Wilmore, Meghan openly described Trump as “divisive and misogynistic,” stating that his leadership wasn’t the kind of world people would want. However, when Emily pressed her to reflect on those remarks today, Meghan chose not to revisit them directly.
Instead, she responded carefully:
“No, I just make a choice of what matters to me and what’s important to me. And that was a different time in 2016, certainly. I think if there’s anything I wanted to say or that felt necessary to say, then I would say it, but that’s not where I’m at right now. I haven’t said anything political since 2016, which was well before I met my husband, too.”
When further asked about the state of the country and whether she feels restricted in speaking up, Meghan shifted focus to a broader message about unity and compassion. She explained that despite polarization, it is vital for people to “maintain the values that matter to them, feel safe, and remember our shared humanity.”
This moment highlighted Meghan’s deliberate decision to avoid political controversy while still delivering a message rooted in empathy and togetherness. Living in Montecito with Prince Harry and their two children, she seems more focused on humanitarian issues rather than political debates.
Her choice reflects a strategic balance: acknowledging her past, but also distancing herself from political commentary that could overshadow her current work in media, philanthropy, and advocacy.
