Meghan Markle has once again drawn attention after her recent interview with journalist Emily Chang on The Circuit YouTube show. The conversation, which aired on Tuesday the same day the second season of her Netflix series was released touched on politics, immigration, and her past remarks about former U.S. President Donald Trump.
During the 46-minute discussion, Chang revisited Meghan’s 2016 appearance on The Nightly Show with Larry Wilmore, where the Duchess of Sussex had openly called Trump “divisive and misogynistic.” Back then, Meghan explained that his leadership style was not the kind of world people would want to live in.
When Emily asked if there were things Meghan wanted to say now but felt she couldn’t, Meghan replied carefully:
“No, I just make a choice of what matters to me and what's important to me. That was a different time in 2016. If there’s anything I wanted to say that felt necessary, I would say it. But that’s not where I’m at right now. I haven’t said anything political since 2016, which was well before I met my husband too.”
The host pressed further, pointing out how many people today are hesitant to speak out because of the highly polarized political climate. Meghan responded with a broader, values-driven perspective:
“I think right now it’s a really interesting time for the entire world. I just hope people are able to maintain the values that matter to them, to feel safe, and to remember our humanity with each other. However polarized the world can feel, we should try to connect rather than divide.”
Currently living in Montecito, California, with Prince Harry and their children, Prince Archie (6) and Princess Lilibet (4), Meghan continues to balance public interest with a cautious approach to politics. While she didn’t directly reignite her past verbal clashes with Trump, her remarks show a shift from blunt political criticism to a more diplomatic call for unity and compassion.
