For years, one of the most talked-about controversies surrounding Melania Trump has been her noticeable absence from the covers of America’s top fashion magazines during her time as First Lady. Unlike her predecessors Michelle Obama, Hillary Clinton, or even Jill Biden, Melania a former supermodel was shut out from covers like Vogue and Vanity Fair between 2016 and 2020.
That might be about to change.
According to a recent Semafor report, Vanity Fair’s new editor-in-chief, Mark Guiducci, is considering putting Melania Trump on the magazine’s cover. This comes as part of a broader editorial shift under his leadership. At just 37, Guiducci is said to be steering the magazine in a more “open-minded” direction, including giving space to figures who might previously have been dismissed due to political leanings.
This marks a major break from the stance of his predecessor, Radhika Jones, who, like former VF boss Graydon Carter, adopted a hardline anti-Trump approach. Under their leadership, Vanity Fair lost traffic, staff, and a slice of cultural relevance. Now, Guiducci appears willing to shake things up, even if it risks alienating some of the magazine’s more liberal readers.
Back in 2022, Melania herself commented on her exclusion from fashion magazines, telling Fox News:
“They are biased, and they have likes and dislikes, and it’s so obvious. I think the American people see it. I had much more important things to do in the White House than worry about being on the cover of Vogue.”
Interestingly, Melania has graced Vanity Fair Mexico’s cover in 2017, but she has never appeared on the U.S. edition. If Guiducci moves forward, it would mark the first time Melania Trump is featured on an American fashion magazine cover as First Lady a symbolic shift in how media outlets treat her.
With 2024 politics heating up and cultural divides sharper than ever, one thing is clear: a Melania Trump cover shoot would spark major conversation and controversy in both fashion and political circles.
