Melania Trump Takes On New Trump Administration Role

What is Melania Trump’s new AI education initiative about?

First Lady Melania Trump has announced a nationwide competition aimed at preparing the next generation of Americans for the age of artificial intelligence.

In a video statement, she introduced the Presidential AI Challenge, inviting all U.S. students from kindergarten through 12th grade — along with educators — to submit projects that explore the study, development, or use of AI tools.

The initiative, launched by an executive order signed by President Donald Trump in April, is designed to inspire innovation, encourage STEM education, and equip students for an AI-driven future workforce.

Melania Trump said:

"Just as America once led the world into the skies, we are poised to lead again — this time, in the age of AI."

The contest offers significant rewards:

Elementary-level National Champions: $10,000 for their school, homeschool group, or community organization.

Middle school, high school, and educator National Champions: $10,000 awarded to each team member.

Michael Kratsios, Director of the White House Office of Science and Technology Policy, explained that AI is becoming integral across all careers — from medicine to law to law enforcement. He emphasized that the challenge will give students hands-on experience with the tools shaping tomorrow’s economy.

This isn’t the First Lady’s first step into technology. She previously promoted digital safety initiatives such as the TAKE IT DOWN Act, targeting AI-generated deepfakes, and even launched an AI-powered audiobook.

With registration now open at ai.gov and submissions due by January 20, 2026, the White House hopes this program will cultivate a generation of AI innovators and strengthen America’s position as a global leader in technology.
