Interestingly, Melania Trump seemed to know she would one day become First Lady long before her husband Donald Trump ever launched his presidential campaign.
Melania and Donald first met in 1998 and tied the knot in 2005. But back in 1999, while they were still dating, Melania had already envisioned a future where Donald Trump would be President and she would step into the role of First Lady.
During an interview with ABC News in 1999, a then-26-year-old Melania, who was still working as a model, was asked whether she could imagine herself as America’s First Lady. Without hesitation, she replied: “Yes.”
She even shared that she would carry herself in a traditional and graceful manner, much like iconic First Ladies such as Jackie Kennedy and Betty Ford. At the time, she also described Donald as “very kind” and “very charming,” showing how deeply she admired him even in the early stages of their relationship.
Years later, when Donald Trump officially announced his 2016 presidential bid, Melania once again addressed the possibility of becoming First Lady in an interview with People Magazine. She said:
“It’s a long road. I take it day by day. My husband has a lot of people cheering for him. We will see.”
Donald Trump himself praised Melania’s potential as First Lady, saying she would be “an amazing representative for our country” and highlighting her elegance, confidence, and compassion especially her interest in women’s health issues.
What started as a candid remark in her mid-20s eventually became reality, not just once but twice, as Melania Trump served as First Lady of the United States from 2017 to 2021, and she could potentially step into that role again if Donald Trump returns to the White House.
