'Never started a war?' Nick Ferrari slams caller defending Putin's Ukraine invasion

Radio host Nick Ferrari recently had a heated exchange with a caller who defended Vladimir Putin during a live segment on LBC.

The caller, Jacob from Surbiton, argued that Putin had not started wars or invaded countries in the past 40 years, despite Russia’s current full-scale assault on Ukraine. “Why has Putin suddenly gone after Ukraine now, if he never did anything before? He’s never started a war,” Jacob said.

Ferrari pushed back, asking: “What do you call what he’s doing in Ukraine, then?”

Jacob tried to compare Putin’s actions to U.S. and NATO interventions in places like Libya and Iraq, arguing that Western leaders had a history of destroying countries under the banner of democracy. He insisted that Putin’s record was being unfairly judged in comparison.

Ferrari acknowledged Western mistakes in the Middle East, but he firmly pointed out that Putin has also been responsible for serious violations. “He’s seized land that international law makes clear doesn’t belong to him—South Ossetia, Crimea,” Ferrari reminded him. “He’s shot down passenger planes and poisoned people on British soil. That cannot be ignored.”

Meanwhile, Ukraine has continued to suffer under relentless Russian attacks. Reports confirmed dozens of civilians were killed in Kharkiv after heavy bombardments. In Okhtyrka, 70 Ukrainian servicemen lost their lives in a single day of shelling. Ukraine’s general staff also reported Russian military losses, though independent sources have not verified those numbers.

The debate highlighted a broader issue: while Western interventions have drawn criticism, Russia’s invasion of Ukraine is a blatant breach of international law and has caused immense human suffering.
