Newsnight bombshell as BBC guest explodes 'Trump is on Putin's side'

During a recent appearance on BBC Newsnight, political commentator and former George W. Bush speechwriter David Frum made a bold claim: Donald Trump is actively working to undermine Ukraine’s defense against Russia.

Frum, who is also a staff writer at The Atlantic, argued that Trump’s push for “peace talks” is less about resolving the conflict and more about buying time for Vladimir Putin. He pointed to Trump’s recent summit with Putin in Alaska, followed by a high-profile White House meeting with seven European leaders and Ukraine’s President Zelensky.

According to Frum:

“The point of the Trump-Putin summit worked out exactly as intended. Trump is trying to buy time week after week in order not to help Ukraine. His policy has been absolutely clear and consistent he is on Putin’s side in this war, and he wants to sabotage Ukraine’s self-defense efforts.”

This perspective struck a chord with many online users. On X (formerly Twitter), one wrote: “Trump absolutely is!! The EU needs to support Ukraine and stop thinking the USA is automatically on Ukraine’s side.” Another added: “If there wasn’t so much public support for Ukraine in America, things would be even worse.”

Some also pointed out that Trump has a history of delaying military assistance to Kyiv. One commenter noted: “He’s been doing this since before he took office, with House Republicans delaying aid for months. He is actively helping Putin.”

Interestingly, Putin himself sounded optimistic after last week’s Alaska summit. Speaking to reporters, the Russian president said:

“With the arrival of President Trump, I think a light at the end of the tunnel has finally appeared. We had a very good and meaningful meeting. The next steps now depend on U.S. leadership, but I believe President Trump’s qualities are a guarantee that relations will be restored.”

This raises serious questions: Is Trump genuinely pursuing peace, or is he aligning U.S. policy closer to Moscow’s interests?
