Many people were watching closely when Donald Trump and Vladimir Putin met in Alaska this past weekend. While the summit itself did not produce any major breakthroughs, much of the attention quickly shifted to Putin’s physical appearance and behavior.
Despite repeated denials from the Kremlin, speculation about the Russian president’s health continues to surface. Observers noticed that Putin descended the aircraft stairs unusually slowly, pausing midway, and appeared to limp slightly once on the red carpet. During his public appearance with Trump, he repeatedly bent his knees and shifted his weight from foot to foot. Ukrainian media even remarked, “What is wrong with Putin’s legs?”
Some outlets, including Telegram channels, noted that his legs appeared to tremble. Others suggested he may have been wearing inserts in his shoes to compensate for the height difference with Trump, who is 6’3”. A few fringe reports even speculated about a lightweight exoskeleton under his trousers.
While this might sound far-fetched, rumors about Putin’s health are not new. For years, investigative reports have claimed he travels with cancer specialists, particularly a thyroid surgeon. Allegations have also circulated about past surgeries, difficulty standing for long periods, and even unusual seating arrangements during official meetings.
At the Alaska summit, Putin’s responses to journalists added to the impression of unease. He raised his voice several times and appeared visibly flustered, while Trump largely remained silent. Both men spoke vaguely about “progress” but offered no specifics.
European officials later emphasized that Russia cannot dictate Ukraine’s membership in NATO or the EU, although Russian media portrayed the meeting as a diplomatic success for Moscow.
Ultimately, the summit left more questions than answers. Once again, Putin’s health became the focal point whether because of his gait, his posture, or his visible frustration during the press conference. Given the long history of speculation about his medical condition, these observations have only deepened the ongoing debate about what shape he is really in, and what that might mean for Russia’s future leadership.
